Amagansett has always been our happy place. It is where my husband and I spent our formative dating years and where we returned each summer as our family grew. We purchased the house with the intention of creating a weekend and holiday refuge for ourselves and our grown children.
The home, a 1920s Dutch Colonial, is nestled on a charming tree-lined street known locally as the ‘lanes’ which run perpendicular to the bluff and sit a short distance from town and the ocean. It’s classic layout and solid bones appealed to us and fit perfectly within the neighborhood. While we appreciated the existing floor plan and select upgrades, the house initially lacked the warm, organic layers we envisioned.
After living with the spaces for a few months, we thoughtfully planned the millwork, palette, and furnishings, essentially adding the layers and character back in. Our goal was to create an environment that felt lived in, collected and appropriate for the scale and location of the home. Much of the house is furnished with vintage pieces, carefully balanced with custom elements. Nearly all the art was sourced from local artists and galleries. Paint, millwork, and a carefully considered furniture plan brought everything together. In the end, it took less work than expected to transform the spaces and allow the homes character to shine through.
