After our initial site visit, we knew this was a project and partnership we could truly get excited about. Our clients purchased the home from a couple who lived there for over thirty years so many of the historic details were intact.
The plan was to convert the brownstone into a two-family residence, creating a separate garden apartment for extended family, while thoughtfully updating and restoring the century old townhouse on one of the best blocks in the neighborhood.
Our clients shared our appreciation for preservation and historical architectural. Original doors, hardware, knobs, mantles, and ceiling details were restored and reused throughout. We repurposed some of the beautiful ceiling medallions in the new extension, allowing these original elements to live in the new spaces meaningfully.
Our clients wanted spaces that felt elegant but not overly precious considering their young family. We introduced custom millwork throughout, including the kitchen, bathrooms, den/office and laundry room and layered in a mix vintage and custom furnishings to compliment the original architecture of the home.
The renovation was completed in May 2023. At the tail end of the project our clients welcomed their second child and moved into their beautifully restored home.
