We were originally brought on with the architect to modify parts of the home, but as the design process evolved, our clients realized that it made the most sense to tackle the full project at once.
While the turn of the century home had expansive width and a built-in garage, most of the original details were removed in a prior renovation which no longer made sense.
We blended classic elements with modern touches to honor and balance the new and existing architectural features, while vastly improving the flow. Oak herringbone floors replaced uneven pine floors throughout the parlor level, complemented by substantial new moldings and crown which felt original. The use of custom millwork throughout unified and enhanced the spaces.
The clients originally considered replacing the original staircase with something more modern, but we decided to restore the existing instead. It remains a favorite and one of the few remaining historic elements. For the same reason, we retained the exposed brick staircase wall and simply added a layer of paint to allow for the textural backdrop.
